To what extent did the unrest in the Balkan region influence the beginning of the First World War?

When structuring the answer the student should take into consideration the fact that there were two Balkan Wars (in 1912 and 1913) just before the beginning of the First World War (in 1914). Even though the Balkan Wars ended before there were still huge unrests and disputes among the Balkan states themselves and among Balkan states and other foreign influencers. One of the foreign influencers being the Austrian-Hungarian Empire, which wanted to limit the Serbian growing power and influence in the region that was the result of their success in the both Balkan Wars. For that reason they annexed Bosnia, which was absolutely negatively conceived by Serbians, who expected to increase their influence in that area. Serbia has been a long-time ally of Russia and has requested help, however, Russian has just come out of another war and was not strong enough to declare full support to Serbia and threat Austria. However, after the assassination of the Austro-Hungarian Archduke, when Serbia was given the ultimatum by Austro-Hungary, Russia did not hesitate and declared full support to Serbia, also because with Serbia accepting the ultimatum it would increase Austro-Hungarian dominance in the Balkan region and hence prevent any potential Russian influence, which for Russia was too much.To conclude, Balkan region was an area of constant tensions between small states situated in the region, as well as between foreign powers, who considered the region of huge importance and wanted to increase their dominance in that region. On the other hand there were many tensions between the powers in Europe in general and the Balkan region was taken advantage as a reason to start the war between the powers of Europe.
