Describe the process of synaptic transmission

Electrical impulses are sent through the axon and are translated into chemical messages at the end of the axon. Neurotransmitters are released from the presynaptic neuron into the synaptic cleft and bind to specific receptors. When these neurotransmitters bind to the postsynaptic neuron, an electrical impulse will be stimulated. Neurotransmitters which don't bind will be either reuptaken or destroyed by enzymes.
