What was the purpose of the Marshall Plan 1948?

After the Second World War, most of the countries within Europe were bankrupt or had very little money. These were the perfect conditions for support of communism to grow, since it promised moving wealth from the richest in society and being shared amongst the working classes equally. The USA was terrified of communism spreading any more than it already had throughout satellite states of the USSR, and they believed it had to be stopped in order to prevent a worldwide communist revolution. The most obvious way for them to do this was by removing the incentives for the countries most at risk of turning to communism, and make it unattractive to them by giving them $12bn.If they were no longer so poor, the key incentive behind communism would no longer exist and the countries would be able to rebuild themselves without depending on the USSR's help.
