How do I solve the simultaneous equations 3x+2y=17, 4x-y=30?

Lets number the equations: 1) 3x + 2y = 17 2) 4x - y = 30If we double equation 2) we will get matching y coefficients so:8x - 2y = 60 if we rearrange this to be 8x-60 = 2y Then if we put these together: 3x + 8x -60 = 17 11x = 77x=7 Substitute in x=7(3x7) +2y = 1721 + 2y = 172y = -4y = -2Therefore x=7 and y=-2
