Solve x^2 - 7x + 10 = 0

First factorise: (x - 2)(x - 5) = 0

Then either: x - 2 = 0   so x = 2

            or   x - 5 = 0   so x = 5

The curve C has polar equation 'r = 3a(1 + cos(x)). The tangent to C at point A is parallel to the initial line. Find the co-ordinates of A. 0<x<pi

Tangent is parallel, therefore (dy/dx)=0.

Find y:

y = r sin(x) = 3a(1 + cos(x))(sin(x))

Differentiate y with respect to x

dy/dx = 3a[(2cos(x) - 1...
