What is the difference between Mitosis and Meiosis?

A cell has DNA and this makes up chromosomes, this is found in the nucleus of the cell. A chromosome cnan divide and form 2 chromatids. Mitosis and Meiosis are both ways in which cells reproduce. Mitosis is when the cell divides into two, creating 2 identical copies of the parent cell. Chromosomes are coppied then the chromatids are pulled apart causing the chromosome to seperate and the cell divided.  Where as in Meiosis gametes that are not identical to the parent cell are produced - each gamete has 23 chromosomes. The chromosomes in the parent cell coppied, simillar chromoses pair up and then the cell divides so the simillar chromosomes are seperated (46 chromosomes). Individual chromatid in the chromosome is pulled apart and the cell divides again (23 chromosomes).

Mitosis is produces normal body cells (43 chromosomes) wheras mieosis is for production of gametes (23 chromosomes)
