The area of a rectangle is 8cm^2. The rectangle is (3x+1) by (2x+5). Find the value of x

Area of a rectangle is width times height (3x+1)(2x+5)= 6x2+15x+2x+5            6x2+17x+5 Set formula of area equal to known area value. 6x2+17x+5= 8 6x2+17x-3 = 0 (6x-1)(x+3)=0 (or use quadratic formula) x=-3 or x=1/6 insert into original equation to check for accuracy
