what is eutrophication

eutrophication is whereby excess feriliser from farmland has run off into areas of water such as lakes or rivers. algae growth is promoted due to the rise in phosphates. in turn  the remaining oxygen in the water is depleted as the algae respires using the o2 as the final electron acceptor. with depleted 02, the fish are unable to survive as well as other living organisms.
