From your work experience what have you learnt about the realities of being a doctor?

From the work experience that I have undertaken I have learnt more about the day to day realities of life as a doctor. I have learnt that being a doctor requires good communication and team working skills. These were the two main things that stuck out for me during my time on the wards, I realised that doctors don't work by themselves, they work as part of a large team which includes, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, paramedics, social services, and these professions are all working together with the patients health being the centre of this. Working as part of such a big team requires good organisation and communication skills and during my time on the wards I saw several instances where these were used effectively.
