When do you use tu and when do you use vous?

Tu is the informal form of 'you', so is used when speaking with someone your age, a peer, a friend, or someone you know very well. Vous is used in a more formal setting and shows respect, so with adults or people older than you, such as teachers, interviewers, other people's parents, adults you don't know.
