Tobacco Mosaic Virus (TMV) causes plants to produce less chlorophyll leading to discolouration of the leaves. Explain why plants infected with TMV have stunted growth.

Less chlorophyll in the leaves means that less photosynthesis can occur. The process of photosynthesis produces glucose, so less photosynthesis will mean that there is less glucose produced. This leads to there being less energy available for growth, as glucose is required for respiration. There will therefore be less amino acids available for growth as glucose is required for their production.
