Explain one argument in favour of lowering the voting age in the UK

Those who are in favour of lowering the voting age to 16 in the UK believe that through expanding suffrage (the right to vote in elections) it will help to increase the political engagement of young people. For example in the Scottish Indepence Referendum (2014) 75% of 16-17 year olds registered, voted in the referendum. This high turnout shows that by lowering the voting age, higher levels of political engagement can be achieved.
