Describe the differences and similarities between diffusion and osmosis.

Diffusion and osmosis both describe the net movement of molecules down a concentration gradient, resulting in an even spread of the molecule over an area over time. Osmosis, however, is more specific as it relates solely to the net movement of water down the concentration gradient and across a semi-permeable membrane. Osmosis is therefore a form of diffusion, but not vice versa.
