Why did Britain lose the war of American independence?

Identify key factors. Geography, leadership, intervention of France and Spain etc. For first, weak and incompetent military and political leadership meant the British were unprepared to fight a war in 1775, lacking naval and military strength with too few frigates and lack of full naval mobilisation until 1778. Incompetent commanders and rivalries in navy and army, like Lord North, Keppel and Howe. Second, geography as in huge area of American colonies meant that it was impossible to impose a naval blockade over the entire coast and hard to occupy large areas and supply large amount of troops. Third, war with Europeans distracted naval and military strength in Europe, provided military and economic support to Americans. Identify most important, for example the poor leadership in introduction and conclusion and how geography and European intervention compounded situation.
