Why were the Crusader States able to Survive between 1100 and 1124

Students will be encouraged to follow a structure that teaches all the skills relevant to exam questions and the Historical discipline in generalThey will have an introduction that sets out a clear view ie ranks the issues relevant to this question in order of importance eg Muslim Disunity, Military Skill and External support. This means their ability to weigh up accounts of the past. They will write 3 paragraphs with knowledge covering the period (a feature of top and examination specifications). They will consistently substantiate their knowledge with analysis of it (another feature of a top student) which allows them to show evaluation skills. Finally they will be encouraged to keep linking their knowledge back to the question so that the answer remains focused.an example paragraph might look like this:Muslim disunity was the most important reason for the survival of the crusader states between 1100 and 1124Knowledge to support 1103 - The assassins kill the emir of Homs 1105 - Malik shah II was deposed by one of his followers Muhammad I1108 - Tuthegin declared independence for Damascus1113 - The Assassins kill Mawdud of Mosul 1115 - Il Ghazi allied with Baldwin to defeat Busuq of Hamadan sent by the Sultan in Iraq to try and defeat the Franks, Il Ghazi rejected the intervention and authority of the Sultan.1118 - ll Ghazi removed Aleppo from the Seljuk empire 1124 - The Turks failed to assist the Fatimids at Tyre, this is evident of the Internal doctrinal splits in the Muslim world (Sunni v Shia split)1124 - Balak dies fighting his own followersPossible counter arguments include - There were calls for a united Muslim offensive in 1105 by Muslim preachers that resulted in Muslim alliances across the period 1113 and 1115, although they were unsuccessful (Evaluation)Evaluation: The Muslim divisions in the period were the most important reason for the survival of the crusader states between 1100 and 1124 (Linking evaluation to Question) because it prevented them from gaining a significant numerical advantage over the Christian forces. Furthermore as the muslims became more united the Franks started to lose more battles, other reasons like military skill were a mixed bag, they lost as many battles as they won. (Evaluation)
