Many Germans voted for the Nazis in the years 1928–33 because of Nazi propaganda. Do you agree? Explain your answer.

In my opinion, I believe there were many factors that determined the German public’s reaction to Hitler and the Nazi party. Firstly, the wall street crash of 1929 plunged Germany back into a period of great depression, after they had just recovered from the long years of hardship they had endured after the first world war. Because Germany had been receiving loans from America, when their economy crashed, they wanted their money returned, and the huge amounts of money Germany had to return plunged it back into deep financial troubles. The German public blamed the government for the collapsed economy, and were tired of the social democrats mistakes, they wanted an alternative, and Hitler seemed to be that alternative. He promised to make Germany great again, and that is what all Germans desired.
However, the Nazi propaganda was very effective. It featured many powerful images that would have inspired many people to go out and vote for the Nazi party at the next election. One image that was particularly powerful was that of arms emblazoned with the Nazi symbol, handing out work tools. This is a very persuasive image as, at a time where most of the population was unemployed, the image of people handing out work tools symbolised prosperity. The public wanted their economy to be strong again, they wanted to work and earn money, and if the Nazi's could offer them that, then they would gladly vote for them.
Another factor that lead to the general public voting for the Nazi's was Hitler himself. As a charismatic character, he stood out from the other political leaders of the time. As he was an excellent public speaker, he caught people's attention, and made people want to listen to him. He was enigmatic and was passionate about his beliefs. Also, as he had fought in the first world war and been awarded the iron cross for bravery, he was a symbol of nationalism and pride as he had fought for his country then, and was willing to fight for it again. He seemed to care much more for the people than some of the other men that had been in charge. The Nazi's used his public speaking skills to their advantage, by including speeches in their campaigns. They had organised speeches and flew Hitler all over Germany so he could address people from all over the county.
