Solve for x, 4x+3.5 = 1

First, you regroup all numbers which are not factors of x on one side of the equation:
4x = 1 - 3.5
so 4x = - 2.5
Then, you isolate x:
x = - 2.5/4
x = - 5/8 = - 0.625
