How are animals cloned?

Firstly what is cloning?

Cloning is used to produce individuals that are genetically identical to their parents.

To clone animals embryos are used. The nucleus of an adult cell (such as a skin cell) is placed into an empty egg cell (which has had its nucleus removed). This new cell is given an electric shock which causes it to start to divide. This creates a ball of cells called an embryo. This ball of cells is then transferred into the womb of the host mother where it grows and a genetically identical individual is created.
