Explain how the formation of glycogen in liver cells leads to a lowering of blood glucose concentration.

In hepatocytes, glycogenesis occurs where glucose is converted to glycogen. This causes a decrease in glucose concentration in the cell in comparison to the plasma thus maintaining a concentration gradient. Glucose will leave the blood by facilitated diffusion to the hepatocyte thus lowering blood glucose concentration.
