What aspects of medicine don't appeal to you?

When answering this question at interview, it's important to give a well thought out structured answer. Simply saying everything about medicine appeals to you is indicative of a lack of experience and knowledge, as objectively speaking there are several unpalatable aspects to a career in medicine - such as stressful long hours; emotionally draining work; physically demanding shifts; or lack of appreciation from patients, their family or the media. The best way to answer this question is to recall your work experience and conversations you've had with healthcare professionals; and pick a few of the aspects of their jobs that didn't appeal to you, such as the aforementioned. Then for each aspect, suggest a way to manage it e.g. through my work experience, I have seen the emotional burden placed on the healthcare professional due to being surrounded by death and giving bad news; however communicating with your colleagues and loved ones, and being open and honest when you're struggling, strengthens you and allows you to maintain your stability in what is a very demanding but even more rewarding field of work. Then finish off by reaffirming your desire to be a doctor; and that the positives outweigh the negatives.
