Describe the terms of the Treaty of Versailles [4 marks].

This is a very standard GCSE History question. To get the four marks you just need to recall 4 key points about the treaty. You can also make fewer points with more explanation if you can't remember 4 separate points. The following is an example answer using 4 points. In Article 231, known as the 'War Guilt Clause' of the Treaty of Versailles, Germany was forced to accept complete and sole responsibility for the outbreak of the First World War. As a result, Britain, France, and the USA charged Germany with war reparations which ultimately came to a crippling £6.6 billion. The Germany army was reduced to just 100,000 men, a relatively tiny number at the time, and the Rhineland was demilitarized. Furthermore, Germany lost territory in Europe and lost all her overseas colonies, and Germany was forbidden to form an Anschluss (union) with Austria, and was barred from joining the League of Nations.
