Solve x^2 -4x=12

1:Firstly, put all the terms on the Left Hand Side, leaving only 0 on the right hand side2: Factorise the equation a) think about what multiples can be used to calculate -12 1*-12=-12 and -112=-12 2-6=-12 and -26=-12 3-4=-12 and -3*4=-12 b) Now look at the x term, the coefficient of the x term = -4 Therefore the factors multiplied to equal -12 also need to (either in addition or subtraction) calculate -4 This would be: (x-6)(x+2)3: Answer is: x=6 x=-2
