A plane travels at 213 miles per hour. Work out an estimate for how long, in seconds, the plane takes to travel one mile.

213 miles/hour speed = distance/time
round 213 to 200 as only an estimate;
s=200/1 hour = 200/3600 seconds (then divide by 200 to get time for 1 mile)s = 1/18
at this speed, the plane travels 1 mile per 18 seconds.

A straight line goes through (0,1), (2,5) and (4,9). The equation of the straight line is y=2x+1. Is the point (7,12) on this straight line?

Aled has three concrete slabs. Two of the slabs are square, with each side of length x metres. The third slab is rectangular and measures 1 metre by (x +1) metres. The three concrete slabs cover an area of 7m^2. Show that 2x^2 + x – 6 = 0. Find x.
