• acid in stomach kills pathogens in food• skin forms a barrier / produces antimicrobial secretions• hairs in the nose trap (particles which may contain) pathogens• trachea / bronchi has mucus which traps pathogens or bronchi have cilia which waft mucus to throat to be swallowed
