What is homeostasis?

Homeostasis refers to the processes that occur in our bodies to maintain various factors at set values. An example of this is control of body temperature. For example, if the temperature is too high, we begin to sweat, and the blood vessels in our skin dilate so that more heat is lost from our blood. This is done in order to cool us down and maintain homeostasis.
