Why did Clemenceau want a harsh treaty of Versailles in 1919?

There are three parts to the answer so base the paragraphs around this, for example the first answer could be, "Because France had been invaded twice by Germany in 1870 and 1914 and he wanted to prevent another attack." This would be the first part of the answer but you always want a point and then two explanations. So "By a harsh treaty Germany would be stripped of the ability to launch another invasion of France. Thus to protect France from future German invasions Clemenceau pushed for a harsh treaty." If you can cover up the last sentence and your answer still has an explanation you have enough for the marks.
