Write 2x^2 - 16x + 6 in the form a(x + b)^2 + c where a, b and c are constants to be determined.

2x^2 - 16x + 6= 2(x^2 - 8x) + 6= 2((x-4)^2 - 16) + 6= 2(x - 4)^2 - 26So a = 2, b = -4 and c = -26
