Expand the quadratic equation and simplify: (3a+4)(a-1)

To expand brackets you should multiply each term with every other term. Here it would be: 3a2-3a+4a-4 Collecting the a terms, this simplifies to: 3a2+a-4.

Solve algebraically: 6a + b = 16 ..... 5a - 2b = 19

first equation: 6a + b = 16     second equation: 5a - 2b = 19    from 2 times first equation + second equation 17a = 51 meaning a = 3

.... from the first equation 6(3) + b = 16 therefore b = - 2
