In a school 2/5 students play an instrument. Of those students 3/7 play the violin. Find the ratio of students who play the violin compared to the students who do not play the violin.

First step: Find the number of students out of the whole school who play the violin. 2/5 x 3/7= 6/35 (Simplest version of the fraction) Take the denominator to represent the number of students in the school and the numerator to represent the number of students in the school who can play the violin. Therefore, out of 35 students, 6 can play the violin. Second step: Find the number of students who do not play the violin and do not play any other instrument. Of those 35 students, 6 can play the violin. Therefore, to work out the number of students who do not play the violin you do: 35- 6= 29Out of those 35 students, 29 cannot play the violin. Third step: Find the ratio. 6: 29 (This is the simplest whole number ratio)
