Describe how a vaccine results in immunity.

Vaccine contains dead or altered/weakened form of the disease-causing pathogen, which contains a specific antigen. The antigen stimulates an immune response, leading to production of B lymphocytes. Activation of B lymphocytes give rise to plasma cells (which can produce antibodies) and memory cells.Memory cells stay in the body for many years and recognise the same antigen if encountered again.
