Which influenced Charlemagne more his dealings with Byzantium or with the Anglo-Saxons? (10 Marks)

This is a standard 10 mark question in the unit 2 of OCR A-Level History.
The key is to not spend too long on the 10 marker as you can get near full marks by writing two solid paragraphs on each segment of the question. Here for instance you could mention the fact Charlemagne's dealings with Byzantium resulted in a growing belief that he, rather than the eastern emperors, was the true guardian of Christianity, and this lies behind his promotion of culture and learning in Frankia. The relationship with Frankia is seen in the Libri Carolini (794), which clarified Charlemagne’s position on images, in it he denounced the judgement of the Council of Niacea (787), and censured the writings of Emperor Constantine VI, under who’s auspices is had been held. And for his relationship with the Anglo-Saxons he pillar of the Carolingian Renaissance was Alcuin of York described by Einhard as the most learned man to be found anywhere in the world. He personally tutored Charlemagne, and wrote on an enormously wide range of subjects: including theology, arithmetic, rhetoric, and grammar. Which Influenced a whole range of students, some of whom were sent back to England to copy texts.
